GEELONG'S INAUGURAL FRINGE FESTIVAL

The Geelong Fringe Festival began as an Arts Advisory Panel initiative at Courthouse ARTS, Geelong. What began as a week of subversive theatre shows, grew into a visual arts collaboration and sponsorship with Deakin University.

Deakin University delivered a week of lectures and workshops for the participating artists to draw inspiration from, while Courthouse ARTS provided space, staff, funding and the use of its gallery for the installation art opening night.

Artists were invited into 'The New Wilderness', a theme inspired by the spaces left behind in Geelong's dying manufacturing industry. The New Wilderness enabled artists to create stimulating installation works, encouraged them to take risks and to delve into the subversive and post-apocalyptic landscapes.
